What Refocus does

Refocus is Radbin's AI depth-of-field tool for Adobe Photoshop. You mark a focus point with any selection; Radbin estimates the depth of the scene and blurs everything else with a fall-off that follows distance, the way a lens does. Basic mode has four blur amounts (Subtle, Medium, Strong, Extreme). Advanced mode, the Lens Lab, lets you choose a lens from 35 mm to 135 mm, a macro or a tilt-shift, and an aperture from f/1.2 to f/16; the layer is named after the choice. By default your subject's own pixels are pasted back over the result through an exact mask, so the sharp part of the picture is still your photograph. Refocus costs 3, 5 or 7 credits at 1K, 2K or 4K.

Is this like Photoshop's Depth Blur filter?

It is the same idea with a different engine: Radbin estimates depth with a current image model, follows the optics you choose, and keeps your subject's original pixels sharp instead of re-rendering them.

Can I refocus on a different object later?

Yes. Each run is a new layer. The desk example on this page is one photo refocused four times: on the frame, the plant, the book and the mug.

What if the subject in my photo is already soft?

The panel measures the sharpness of the area you marked. If it is soft, it lets the AI rebuild the subject instead of pasting back your pixels. You can force either behaviour with the Subject chips.

Does it need a selection?

Only for the focus point. The blur is applied to the whole image, cut to the nearest shape the model supports; the panel tells you beforehand what would be left out.
